Story 3
National Organisation of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE)
Background
NOBLE USA was established to tackle issues related to justice administration, community relations and the challenges faced by Black police executives. I was appointed Chair of NOBLE USA’s International Affairs Committee in 2008 and subsequently founded NOBLE UK in 2009. The mission of NOBLE UK was to strengthen police ties between the UK and the US, support Black police chiefs and promote diversity, equity & inclusion (DEI).
Addressing Systemic Racism
As Chair of NOBLE’s International Affairs Committee, I was empowered to represent the UK police and consult on shared strategies related to DEI, youth and community engagement and hate crime policies. This role allowed me to advocate for meaningful changes within law enforcement agencies.
Reflections
The lack of Black representation in leadership positions continues to be a significant issue across many organisations today. While awareness has increased, tangible progress remains slow. In the UK, Black police recruitment stands at only 4% annually, despite a 13.5% Black population in London. My goal is to inspire organisations to enhance their recruitment, representation and empowerment strategies, by learning from successful initiatives in both the US and the UK.
